Construction of the new A-Plus pier
  • Expansion and remodeling of the Pier A
  • Enlargement of the existing A baggage hall
  • For up to 6 million passengers per year
  • Focus of the Lufthansa A380 handling activities
  • New marketplaces with extensive retail offerings

By building the new A-Plus pier as a westward extension of Terminal 1, Fraport is taking yet another step toward securing the competitiveness and future viability of Frankfurt Airport. To ensure Frankfurt Airport's future as a successful major international hub, it is imperative for it to provide terminal positions for wide-body aircraft, and especially for the Airbus A380.

The new A-Plus terminal section will, together with Piers C/D and B, constitute the main focus of Lufthansa's future A380 handling activities at Terminal 1.

When it begins operating in 2012, state-of-the-art terminal facilities and a wide array of retail and food & beverage outlets will be available for up to six million passengers a year.

The reputed Hamburg-based architectural firm gmp (Gerkan, Marg and Partners) has been contracted as the general planner for this large-scale construction project.
